Kirsten Edkins is an exciting young saxophonist and composer residing in Los Angeles. As a graduate from the prestigious Eastman School of Music where she attended on scholarship, Kirsten studied with Walt Weiskopf and the legendary Ray Ricker, and expanded her musical education studying composition and arranging with Bill Dobbins. Prior to her tenure at Eastman, she also studied with woodwind specialist and jazz recording artist Bob Sheppard.

As a sought after improviser, Miss Edkins has performed with Arturo Sandoval, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Gary Smulyan, Tim Hagans, Larry Goldings, Clay Jenkins, Geoffrey Keezer, the Clare Fischer Big Band, Bill Holman Big Band, John Daversa Band, Gary Foster, Bob Sheppard, Joe LaBarbara, Larry Koonse, the New York Voices, and Wycliffe Gordon amongst others.

Beyond jazz, Miss Edkins has also performed with such diverse popular artists as Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Natalie Cole, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Seth MacFarlane, Katherine McPhee, Wayne Brady, Otis Williams, Ricky Minor, Anita Ward, Gloria Gaynor while still a host of others. Kirsten’s television appearances include American Idol, Duets, The Voice, Knight Rider, Glee, Bones and The Tonight Show.

Kirsten Edkins is not only an inspired improvising jazz musician, but additionally in demand as a motivational music educator. Her associations include the Stanford Jazz Workshop, Cal State Fullerton, Saddleback College, Golden West College, Occidental College. Kirsten is also busy in her own private studio encouraging and educating young musicians for over 14 years. In addition Miss Edkins Directs the Community Outreach at the American Jazz Institute, and teaches saxophone at Occidental College in Eagle Rock.
